Greetings!
September is here on Ambergris Caye and knock on wood we have not seen any threat of a major storm or Hurricane. Maybe the storm guru’s are going to be right in their predictions that this year will be a low season for any major storm.
The water temp as of today is 86 degrees and the sky is sunny which makes for a great day of diving.
We have a lot of news in this issue, first of all; we have purchased our own NITROX system and rebuilt the compressor.   PADI has started the Nitrox online course to make it easier for all divers to get certified and a NITROX user. (see below).  Ecologic Divers is going to sponsor trips to different areas in the world. so you can join your favorite Divemaster or Instructor and dive some place new.

PADI  introduces Nitrox  and Advanced Open Water Online courses:
You asked for it, now we have it. You can get certified as a Nitrox user at the comfort of your own home or complete all the Advanced OW book work before you come to the dive center.
The course follows the same model as the PADI Open Water Diver Course Online, divers must affiliate with a PADI Dive Center or Resort during registration and complete the knowledge development online – including a new version of the PADI Enriched Air Diver exam. Participants will also have access to an electronic version of the revised Enriched Air Diver Manual both during and after the course. Divers will use a computer to plan (or execute)  enriched air dives within no stop limits, maximum depth and oxygen exposure limits established by the instructor.

Ecologic DIVERS is starting to dive the Blue hole in small groups 4 to 8 people only.

We decided to introduce small group diving  to this popular dive site.  Like many other dive centers we leave early in the morning and go straight to the Blue hole on our 33′ SEA RAY. Some divers just don’t like large dive groups so that was our motivation for this tour.  As many of you know we keep our groups to 6 or less this will be another extension of what we offer.

For the second year San Pedro’s  Lobsterfest was held on Barrier Reef Drive in the heart of San Pedro town, Ambergris Caye. Our very unique Lobsterfest was listed by Frommer’s Whats on When, as one of the 300 greatest events in the world.

Crowds gathered to enjoy all the great things that a Lobsterfest is known for – the extensive selection of delectable lobster cuisine, the display of unique creations by local artisans, great musical entertainment, games, activities, and of course the added attraction of a refreshing dip along San Pedro’s sandy beaches.

The Lobsterfest festivities where organized by several hotels and restaurants on the Island including us, Portofino Beach Resort and Restaurant located north of San Pedro Town.

On Monday June 15th 2009, we had our Lobster Beach BBQ, accompanied with great live music from San Pedro’s icons, Wil and Dale. That day  many guests came over to enjoy a day of fun in the sun, our refreshing designer pool, cold drinks and succulent lobster specials. Complimentary round trip boat transfers where also included for our outside visitors.

The menu included homemade Lobster Ceviche served with crispy corn chips to start with.
And as an Entrée we gave our guests the choice between Grilled Lobster Tail or Lobster Kebab. These succulent dishes where served with Coconut Rice & Coleslaw, Tropical Fruit Punch made by our best bartenders Orville and Raphael and lets not forget, lots and lots of fun!

To make the Lobsterfest complete, our guests could come on Tuesday, June 16th  to enjoy our romantic lobster candlelit dinner. It was a delightful evening of music and dancing and our guests enjoyed our delicious Lobster Bisque, Lobster a la Ritz served over a bed of linguine and for our culinary finale, our famous Café au Laite.

The lobster frenzy lasted for eight days in which people devoured succulent Caribbean Spiny Lobster to their hearts’ content. Overall San Pedro’s second annual Lobster fest was successful again!
