Dream of a destination wedding!

Posted on 25 Feb, 2013 in the Belize News|Portofino News|Portofino Weddings Category. Comments Off

Embrace romance, kindle true love and reward yourself with intimacy in an authentic Caribbean paradise and one of the last unspoiled places on earth.

As you dream of a destination wedding, realize how easy it is to plan your big day abroad, especially with us at Portofino Beach Resort.
Rely on our expert on property Lorraine Reid, who will make your dreams a reality. Whether your Belize wedding is on our private beach, underwater or on top of a Maya temple, you will find unspoiled beauty wherever you look. Whatever you choose will be soul-stirring and a life-changing experience.

Belize is the only English-speaking country in Central America, just a two-hour flight from the U.S. and is perfect for a couple’s getaway, a destination wedding or for celebrating an anniversary.

Romance in Belize is easy. To help you with your ceremony in our tropical paradise, here are answers to frequent questions you might have about getting married at Portofino.

1. Will my marriage be valid and recognized anywhere I go?
Belize follows the traditional British Common Law, so your marriage will be legal anywhere in the world. As there are multiple faiths represented in the country, couples can exchange vows in a range of traditional religious wedding ceremonies, including Christian, Jewish, Maya, Garifuna and more.

2. Do you offer wedding and honeymoon packages?
Yes we do. Our Standard Wedding package includes the service of our wedding coordinator, a beautiful setup on our beach or dock, the ceremony done by a licensed person including the official license is at a cost of US$1470 which includes Governmental taxes. As well a tropical wedding bouquet and boutonnière are as well included the price.
When you are looking for a more personalized wedding package, our on-site wedding planner will be more than happy to help executing all levels of details before, during and after your ceremony.
Are you looking to hold your wedding away from our resort (perhaps on a picturesque Maya Temple)? Our wedding planner can help facilitate all logistics so you have a worry- free experience on your magical day.

For 11 years Portofino Beach Resort offers a fantastic honeymoon package. Click HERE for the details. As well our Honeymoon package can get customized according to any specific preferences you might have.

3. What is required to obtain a marriage license?
Legal Requirements are very simple if you are over 18 years old and we will be happy to help. To apply for a wedding license, you only have to be in the country three days prior to the wedding, and the license has to be applied for at least 24 hours in advance. Don’t forget that you need proof of citizenship (either a birth certificate that includes the father’s name or a valid passport). If it is not your first time, you will also need proof or divorce, if applicable, or a copy of your previous spouse’s death certificate if you are widowed.

Portofino Beach Resort in Belize simplifies the process, from ceremony to honeymoon.

Blending indulgent amenities with an idyllic setting, Portofino Beach Resort, located 6 Miles North of San Pedro, on Ambergris Caye, Belize offers the perfect balance of elegance and natural beauty for an unforgettable wedding, reception and/or event.

On October 17th 2012, Jen and Nick exchanged in present of their family and friends their wedding vows on our secluded beach surrounded with the sound of the ocean.
“During our stay, my husband and I stayed in the Honeymoon suite. It was really nice and decorated with fresh flowers. We had the best hammock on the resort (Besides the ones in the water!) There are no phones in the room and the internet connection was spotty so if we wanted to get in touch with our family, we’d just walk down to the bar or pool area and meet up with them. It was actually fun to not be wired for the week and we still knew where we could find everyone!

If you have a group here, I definitely recommend that everyone stay here. The couple of people who stayed other places felt disconnected and never knew what was going on. My sister actually had a room on the other side of the island. Once she got in, she cancelled her room and moved here. The beach was raked everyday. The pool was a nice temperature. We got to use the free kayaks and go snorkeling at Mexico rocks. I liked that the beach was private, unlike some of the other big resorts downtown. The hotel took care of everything we needed while we were there including booking a bunch of us massages and tours. The bartenders, Orville and Rafael, were so much fun and made us anything that we wanted. All of my guests, even some who were hesitant to go all the way to Belize for my wedding, had the best time! Thank you for making my week amazing!” says Jen.

With over 150 weddings in Belize, Maya Papovic and Colette Kase: owners of Conch Creative made again an amazing photoshoot.
They captured Nick and Jen’s beautiful wedding in such an romantic and spontaneous way.
