“Geweldige plek”
August 22nd, 2016

Geweldige plek, heerlijk ontspannen resort, zeer klantvriendelijk, eten was top.

“Very nice stay”
August 19th, 2016

I found Portofino to be an excellent place to stay in Ambergris Caye. I arrived with my 15 year old nephew (his first trip out of the US) less than a week after they were hit with Hurricane Earl. Yes there was some damage but the hotel did a great job of cleaning up and were working to clear the downed trees and fix the dock. It did not interfere with my stay there. We actually were upgrade to a nicer room as ours was originally damaged. I found the room to be nicely decorated and very clean. They offer some really nice soaps when you arrive as well which I found charming. The pool was nice and I really liked Marco at the bar. Some people are complaining about the seaweed/sea grass but I didn’t notice it in any big way that it impacted my trip. The beach was small but nice…but this isn’t really a place for great beaches. It is a place for amazing snorkeling/diving trips and I recommend that you book yours through Roberto there. The food was quite good quite at the restaurant. Yes, dinner is a little pricey but it’s worth it for the convenience. We also rented a golf cart and drove into San Pedro. It’s a nice way to see more of the island. Yes, you do take a boat there, and my nephew and I really enjoyed that as part of the experience. Overall, I would both recommend this and stay there again if I went back.

“Wonderful Stay!”
August 10th, 2016

AMAZING!!! The hotel staff’s attention, service (particularly Reese and Dorcas), and the details put into making a visitor feel at home was beyond what I would have imagined. Beautiful property. Seaweed would accumulate at shore every few hours but it was constantly taken care of. The resort’s restaurant was great. Must book trips with Ricardo and Marco. They not only made our water trips an enjoyable experience, they taught us lots of the local Belizean culture. Rent golf carts on site. It is more economic and much easier to get to San Pedro than with a taxi cab. You can even hop on their boat free of charge when they are doing a pick up/drop off in town. Wonderful property and great hotel team! I would certainly return!!

“Just what we wanted!”
July 22, 2016

Our cabana was steps from the water, surrounded by palm trees. A hammock on the porch provided comfort and a gorgeous view. The staff was exceptional, Risa at reception, Raul & Rafael in the bar/restaurant. Isadora provided an amazing massage on the beach. The room was beautiful. My husband and I highly recommend.

Fantastic service. Water taxi was efficient. The website does not do the resort justice. We were quite pleasantly surprised with the overall quality.

“The perfect vacation spot!!”
June 29, 2016

My husband and I just got back from 9 days at the Portofino, and we already cannot wait to go back! His birthday and our anniversary. This place is first class all the way. Service was on point, 5 star treatment without the price. We were picked up at the water taxi area, and then transferred up to the resort on another water taxi. This place is remote, but not that bad. Once we arrived, we were greeted with warm towels, and rum punch while we checked in. Our luggage was in our room when we got there, and they had our room decorated with fresh hibiscus, AC (!!!) and local soap that smelt and felt incredible!

Roy was our bartender/server and he was funny, friendly and we really enjoyed our time with him. All of the staff was great. Nick, the Manager was always around to chat, give advise on a local restaurant to eat at, where in town to check out, or a story. He’s a great guy. We both had facials on the beach, which were heavenly. The Papaya facial. Get it..seriously.

We went fishing and snorkeling with Roberto and his crew as well. My husband really wanted to fly fish, and Roberto called his guy and booked my husband with one of the best fly fisherman in all of Belize. We took a 1.5 hour small boat ride out to the flats, and got our fishing on. I caught my first ever salt water fish (8 Barracuda thank you very much) and my husband can now check off Salt water Fly Fishing on his bucket list. It was an awesome day! I will advise though, if you do this excursion, bring lots of water, and cover-ups. We weren’t as prepared for this trip as I thought, and completely fried out in that sun..even with 50 on!! But wow, was it ever worth it! Did another evening fishing trip as well, and went out past the reef…which is apparently a no no. And I totally see why; that reef acts like a wall. If you get sea sick at all, DO NOT GO PAST THE REEF. We were fine, as we don’t get sick, in fact I kinda liked it. But our friends that we had made on this trip tagged along, and … lets just say, they contributed to us catching fish with a bunch of chum. :) Our friends also went out on some excursions with this crew, and they all loved them. He also has golf carts available for rent.

Here’s some things to keep in mind:
1. You are on vacation. The internet isn’t the best, but…YOU ARE ON VACATION.
2. You are not in the states. Things work a little differently down there. Best advice is to just “go with the flow”.
3. The AC units in the rooms are not the very best. They do work, but you are not going to freeze to death that’s for sure. Best to just open up those windows and feel the breeze.

Overall, our best vacation to date. Love this place, and we will definitely be coming back! Highly recommend!

“Romantic Dinner”
June 26, 2016

My husband and I did not stay at the hotel, but it was recommended to us for dinner. The Portofino boat picked us up from our dock, drove us to the hotel and waited for us to finish dinner for our ride home. We sat at a two person table lit by candlelight. Very romantic. The food was delicious (a bit pricey) and the service was great. Only thing I’d recommend is a light jacket for ladies since the wind from the ocean can get a little intense! I would 100% recommend this hotel for dinner!

“Most beautiful and relaxing location”

June 23, 2016

The staff were great, greeting us at the plane, then taking us by skiff to the resort. Calling it a resort was a stretch, as it’s a pool, stunning rooms/suites, and am inside/outside lounge/restaurant. BUT, that said, we weren’t looking for more. We were able to book side trips/attractions if we wanted. We did book a fishing excursion, which was a disaster, but not Portofino’s fault. Rough waves on a captain who didn’t turn around out past the reef, caused me to be injured and unable to walk. That aside, we were happy to take the skiff back to town and shop on the beach or side streets, experience the places to eat , stop for a cold drink. All this was before I was injured. After the leg injury, I stayed at the stunning pool, was brought cold drinks, and helped up the stairs to the restaurant. I got around, made friends of the staff and enjoyed the serenity of the place.
The cabanas were incredible – decorated so beautifully, especially the bath area – hand made soaps and shampoos, flowers in the toilets when we arrived :-) nice touch. The hammocks outside the cabanas were a nice addition too. We saw larger suite rooms, which looked to be incredible.
The restaurant was fabulous. I ate the Grouper Portofino 3 times for dinner while there and managed to get the recipe from the chef. He also cooked the fish my husband caught on the fishing expedition at no charge.
We didn’t access computers or phones, so not sure about connection or services.
They had more hammocks in the shallow water and a long dock for the skiff that takes you into town and back (please tip for this).

“30 year anniversary ”
June 3, 2016

Great get away, great staff! The rooms are semi rustic but fantastic. We looked at all the reviews before booking and despite the few negative ones we booked anyway. Here is what we have to say: if you are looking for an all inclusive beach resort this isn’t the place for you. The beach is just so so, in fact the sand doesn’t extend very far. But the view is awesome! The rooms were clean and vert comfortable. The AC seemed to do the job. (not ice cold but never miserable). No coffee in the room however the staff always had it ready for me even as early as 6:00 am. The meals may be a little pricier than in town but every meal was fantastic. The wi-fi was plenty fast and reliable. Again we cannot say enough about the staff!! Thank you again Portofino!

“Stunning beachfront property with fab pool, great food, and unlimited relaxation”

June 2, 2016

I stayed here late May 2016 with my husband and children and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel has these great little cabanas (aka bures, casita, cabin, cottage) that are absolutely beachfront with rooms that step onto the sand.

You arrive by boat to a pier where you walk to the front desk just after the end of the pier.

The staff takes impeccable care of the property and they are very friendly and accommodating.

“Belize Please!”
May 30, 2016

I found out about Portofino about a decade ago and it was always on our bucket list. It finally happened two weeks ago. Coming from San Diego was a long but efficient trip: SD to Dallas, Dallas to Belize City, then a 15 minute puddle jumper in a 15 person full flight to San Pedro, then a 4 block cab ride to the dock, where the capable Captain Mo picked us up for a bumpy 20 minute speed boat ride to Paradise. We reached the dock and Mo handed us up, our luggage was whisked away (in a wheel barrel, that’s how they roll, and it makes sense) and there was Sadhi, with a smile and a bowl with fresh flowers and 2 towels for our face that smelled of cucumber. Our vacation began at that moment. He led us into the lobby and gave us glasses of tropical punch and checked us in. Then he took us to our upstairs suite, the “Sunflower” and showed us all the features, and offered us an array of fragrant soaps slices.

One of the many things we loved about Portofino was that the whole staff was aware that we had the Tropical Island Package, which included, in addition to the roundtrip local flight and boat trip to Portofino – breakfast each day, a special 3 course dinner with a bottle of house wine, that was advertised as on our first night there, but they let us choose the night; a half day snorkel trip to Mexico Rocks, and another half day with 2 separate snorkel trips at the Hol Chan Marine Reserve. We never had to tell anyone what package we had (they offer a number of them) it was just the opposite. Clinton would kiss me on both cheeks and ask me what day I wanted to schedule our Hol Chan snorkel, and the very kind and friendly Raphael would ask what night we would like our special dinner, and they really did make it special – we wanted to have it at the end of the pier, but we all had to admit it was a bit too breezy, but the table they set for us upstairs in the restaurant was so lovely! We’ve been married 16 years, but the table was dressed out like it was our wedding dinner – beautiful white linens draped over the chairs and table, fresh flowers, candles, and a bottle of wine in a bucket. We had snapper and stone crabs, with steamed veggies, coconut rice. Our table overlooked the beautiful swimming pool that was lit up at night.

One note on the tropical breeze: at times it’s gentle, at other times strong enough to blow your breakfast menu away. It has good points and not so good. The good is that it offsets the humidity and blows the bugs away (not a mosquito bite all week), and the not so good is that you sometimes can’t really enjoy an outdoor meal, and if you have any kind of natural curl to your hair (like we both do, and my husband and I both have long hair) you will have natural dredlocks by the end of the week unless you are vigilant about combing out your hair several times a day. Also, it’s hard to dry your clothes out, even if you hang them in the breeze. Belatedly, I see they have laundry service and I would use that next time.

It’s also true, as other reviewers have noted, that it’s not really a beach that you can just swim out on, there are no waves, owing to the barrier reef, so it’s like a bay, the sand is a bit squishy and not easy to wade out on, but it’s beautiful to look at and the staff is relentless about raking up the sea grass in wheel barrows so it looks pristine. They offer free kayaks and I meant to try it out, as I love to kayak at home, but never got around to it, and never saw anyone else do so.

The staff was awesome on all fronts. Anthony took us out for our trip to Mexico Rocks, just the 3 of us – talk about personalized service. He goes to that area every day, so no wonder 2 huge 6 foot nurse sharks showed up immediately, waiting for his chum, along with a friendly loggerhead turtle that he has named “Tequilla” who just about bumped noses with us, in addition to beautiful coral, schools of colorful fish, and an occasional barracuda, ray, or eel. The water was bathtub warm. Anthony really kept track of us both that day, and the next day with Clinton and 3 other couples when we went to Hol Chan, amazing snorkeling again, in 2 separate spots. They were always aware of where we were, assuring us of our safety, Anthony frequently swam by me underwater to check that I was ok. They also had a life preserver ring out in the water so we could grab onto it if we needed a rest. Maybe it’s not usual to tip the guides, because we didn’t see anyone else do it, but we did. These guys gave us their expertise, fitted us out with the snorkel, mask, and fins (we didn’t want to bring our own), helped us feel comfortable and safe in the water, gave a lot of information about the area and made it a really fun experience. I had a Moon guide book and it didn’t say anything about *not* tipping, so I really recommend doing it.

Nick is the general manger and was very informative and enjoyable to talk with, and helpful about local customs and trips.

Getting into town is a bit of an ordeal, you can either take the bumpy boat ride, or the bumpy golf cart ride (about 6 miles). We rented the golf cart one day and went to San Pedro and found Elvi’s restaurant, it’s been there since 1974. If you go, be sure to get the grilled corn appy, it was delicious. Also the stew chicken. I also got the shrimp tacos with 3 sauces. All good. I don’t recommend the Elvi’s special drink, unless you really like super sweet thick drinks. They also have an all you can eat buffet with live music on Friday nights, that we sadly missed.

Other reviewers have mentioned that the reality of this area of Belize, once out of the resort, consists of pools of fetid water with lots of trash and refuse (they burn their trash, at least some of it) and there are a lot of abandoned buildings. This is true. But at the same time, the locals seem to make do with what they have, and no one is standing on a corner with a sign asking for a handout, like at home. It’s a different world, just go with it. In town, we were a little taken aback when locals will ask for a ride on the back of your golf cart, then not wait for an answer, and hop on. But there was no sales pitch for jewelry, or scams, so it was no problem, they hop off when they get where they’re going and thank you.

Food at Portofino was mostly delicious, I highly recommend the Belizean breakfast with fried jacks. My husband has celiac disease so can’t have any wheat/flour/gluten, the staff were very accommodating and aware of that food issue and modified dishes to omit the flour, such as the almond crusted snapper, which was amazing. He also loved the smoothies, the Tropical Dream – banana, pineapple and coconut, was his favorite. I like my mimosas, which were a bit pricey at $12 a glass, but delicious. Marcos was behind the bar and was always ready to whip up another smoothie, order more champagne for me (just in case) and I liked the tapas menu for an afternoon snack after snorkeling.

One of the highlights at Portofino for me was the massage on the beach with Isadora, she was great and it was everything a fancy spa massage would include – music, lavender scented oil, fluffy towels, and a great head to toe hour-long massage. All that, and on the beach, true bliss.

Portofino is a very quiet tranquil place, which was perfect for us. If you are looking for big partying don’t go here, and I think children might be a bit bored. Even the music at the bar, which was a bit annoying at times with pretty loud, repetitive pop songs on a Sirius channel (I don’t ever want to hear Flo Rida’s “My House” again) quieted down after the second day or so with other tropical themed music like the Jimmy Buffet channel, and was quiet when I got my massage, which I appreciated so I could tune into Isadora’s spa music. Our huge room included a safe, small fridge, and great cable, so many local and premium channels, a nice way to relax in the evening, though we also had a huge balcony with a hammock and 2 chaise lounges that we also used.

We met some truly lovely fellow guests at Portofino, some that we are now staying in touch with. I saw one review that mentioned it was all honeymooners, which was not our experience. There was only one couple on their honeymoon we met, who had lots of great reports about their excursions. The rest were as diverse as at any resort, and we had a great time with everyone.

All in all, a stellar experience and we look forward to returning. The parting gift from the resort of the soaps slices on a wooden tray was such a nice touch.

“Great Resort Very accommodating So much to do”
May 29, 2016

This place is so great. We stayed there for couple of weeks and each day just seemed to to keep getting better. The staff is very friendly and professional. They can tailor anything to your needs. You can really feel the personal touch in everything. You can just lounge around on the beach all day or hit up the dive shop at the dock where they can set you up with any number of activities from fly fishing the flats(which you can also do right off there beach, i caught a ton of bonefish 50 steps from my room) to open water diving. There was just so much to do every day. We’re already planning our next trip.

Excellent location, transportation, service, people, food! The staff go out of their way to be friendly and accommodating. It’s laid back with an easy, tropical feel but anything you want or need will be arranged. We took advantage of the pool, ocean, kayaks, dive shop excursions, complimentary boat taxi and much more. Cannot wait to return!

May 8th, 2016

From the moment we arrived until the end of our stay we were treated like family. It’s a small resort so you have the place to yourself with fun people. Good dinner menu, fresh caught specials every night. The no problem package is recommended. Tree top suite was so nice. Easily could have accommodated 2 kids as well.

May 3rd, 2016

We stayed at the Portofino for four nights. The staff were excellent – very friendly and very helpful. Only 20 minutes by boat from San Pedro. Our room was a colonial suite which was enormous. Restaurant was very good albeit a little pricey – definitely go fishing – we caught barracuda and the restaurant cooked it for us. All activities can be booked on site – we went snorkelling, diving, fishing and hired jet skis. The reef and sea life is extraordinary – never been so close to sharks, stingrays and turtles.

“Went for a wedding, will go back!!! Great resort!”

April 28th, 2016

We had gone down for my brother in-law’s wedding. I had never been to Belize or considered it for travelling (don’t know why). But I will be going back!

The resort is small, quaint with excellent staff. By day two, everyone knew your name. When I asked what time the bar is open till, they said ‘whenever you guys are done drinking.’. They even let us pour after too many drinks one night.LOL Anything you needed, they had or would get or recommend.

This is not an all inclusive resort, so I was a little worried about prices. We had stayed in the mansion, and I had to paid for my wife and two kids after the week was done. My total bill was $800. This included two dive excursions, all meals we ate at the resort, rounds of drinks (wedding cheers), and miscellaneous extras. I was pleasantly surprised by this. Although we did plan our meals and kept prices in mind, we didn’t obsess about prices.

Our dive shop on the resort was great! My wife didn’t bother bring her dive ticket with her and decided she wanted to go diving when we got there. They found her certification from the Great Barrier Reef from years previous. Great job! The dive gear was in good shape, but we brought our own masks, snorkles, boots and flippers with us. One dive was inside the reef (30 ft) at the national park. We saw turtles, an eel, sharks, rays, a friendly barracuda (his name is Jack), it was an aquarium!! Simply stunning. best diving I have ever done. Later in the week, we went outside the reef (75 ft). Saw a lion fish (kill on sight), schools of indigo fish and coral reef. Again, stunning. The dive masters were knowledgeable, helpful (ran through a 20 min refresher course for my wife at no charge), friendly and funny. Made for great dive trips. We also did a snorkel tour with the group. Same route as our first dive and again, amazing! So much wildlife!

The resort pool was deep (for a change – 10 ft), which we all loved!! They would serve drinks by the pool and in the water if you’re in the hammocks. Can’t beat that.

The food is one of the best restaurants on Ambergris Caye. Great food, every meal! No matter what it was, it was good, fresh and timely. Listening to the birds sing while you eat is a treasure. Such unique songs!

Mo shuttled us back and forth to San Pedro in the resort boat. Always on time and super helpful for tips and hints! Great guy, we all loved him!

Would I go back? YES!!! Without question!! Great resort and people. Everyone speaks English (first language), so there was never an issue. Street vendors were not relentless like Mexico, Dominican, etc. If you said ‘no’ and walked away, end of story. That was really nice.

Room Tip: All rooms are amazing! There’s no loser in the bunch!

“Excellent Customer Service/ Awesome Resort”

April 17th, 2016

My wife and I had a wonderful time at Portofino. I call them the day that I was to arrive and were practically on time to pick us up from the airport. Transferred to the boat to the Resort. Upon arrival, we were received with cool drinks and we were told not to worry about our luggage, that was taken care of, totally hands off. After check in, we were taken to our beach front room and gave us Belizian soap of different kind and flavors. The room was awesome, plenty of hot water and complimentary soaps/shampoo and conditioner. Beautifully decorated. The Staff was very helpful and were eager to assist us on whatever we needed. We rented the golf carts for 3 days and drove all over Ambergris/San Pedro. The power went out for one night but was running on backup generator. We could not run the A/C, but the location has awesome security, we were able to sleep with our doors wide open and enjoyed the ocean breeze in our room, sort of like camping but in an awesome bed. No bugs or mosquitoes.
I wish they offer coffee makers in the rooms, that way, I can have it whenever I wanted it.

Room Tip: Beachfront rooms are the best.

We loved the Portofino. Far enough away from town to feel secluded but only a golf cart or boat ride away when you wanted to head into town. Loved the smaller sized resort, and the view from our room was amazing. Portofino’s restaurant had terrific food – every meal we had was excellent but we especially loved the Tapas menu in the afternoon. All the staff were extremely helpful and very friendly.

“Cozy, quant, relaxing! ”

March 30th, 2016

We (husband, self, and daughter) stayed in a suite for 4 nights. The suite was spacious, 2 full beds, WiFi, A/C, small refrigerator with complimentary water. Upon our arrival we were given complimentary scented bars of soap made locally. They smelled delicious and worked up a great lather. Our room staged with flowers on bed and in bath area. The staff was very nice, helpful and more than happy to accommodate. The hotel is approx 20min North of town San Pedro. Recommend to rent a golf cart for the day approx $59 US or couple of hours. Hotel offers complimentary bikes and kayak. Swimming pool on site (not heated). Beach access from hotel walking distance. Water is like bath water and the view is amazing.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay. Our tours we booked on our own prior to arrival. Recommend snorkeling /scuba tour. We had an absolute amazing time! Thank you Portofino for having us!

“Best little resort”
March 28, 2016

This is very nice, small Belize resort! The people who work here are very nice and that makes the difference! You can rent a golf cart to ride into town and do local shopping! Please rent a cart and go to dinner at the restaurant called rain. Sit on top floor I think on clear evening you see a lot of Belize and the sunset! They have boats that take you snorkeling to the reef, the best was Mexico rocks because you get to snorkel with nurse sharks and stingrays!

“Honeymoon After 4 Years – Much Needed”

March 19th, 2016

We just returned from our week long stay at Portofino. We had a great experience. We felt like we were leaving friends behind when we left. The staff are all amazing. Nick and Juan (I believe) are a lot of fun at the bar. Make sure you spennd some time with these guys, they are hilarious, personable and knowledgeable. Every morning we would have breakfast which was top notch service from the restaurant. The front desk staff was very nice and always willing to help but what I appreciated the most was that they were always so very happy to help. Never felt like a bother. The resort is definitely accommodating; it was very peaceful and relaxing, almost like having the resort to ourselves. The rooms are very nice and have all the essentials. We stayed in the VIP building which was right on the water… which is amazing. The “clean-up” crew did a great job at keeping the beach clear of the sea grass and often were up at 5am working hard to remove the grass. My only complaint about the rooms is that there wasn’t a broom. You tend to drag sand in with you, but the room service does a good job at cleaning things up for you everyday. It just would have been nice to sweep up after yourself at night. The bed was comfy, the view was spectacular, and the hammock was a nice touch. The food in the restaurant was great. I read many other reviews which stated something different, but our meals were always tasty, well proportioned and delicious. They have a special everyday as well. Plenty to choose from and a good variety. You can have your meals in your room, at the bar, or sitting at the beach. In terms of location, the resort is well up the north side with little to nothing close by. Of course there is a water taxis that can take you anywhere relatively easily. Plenty of other resorts, bars and restaurants to visit if you’d like. San Pedro is interesting and has plenty of arts and crafts for you to shop. Island hopping by boat or plane is easy. By easy, I mean unbelievably easy. You’ll definitely need to explore some other locations to get the full feel for Belize. The guides at Serious Adventures are the best on the island. Although the resort is great, these guys really made our trip. I guess the way I see it is…you don’t often remember what the rooms looked like, but you always remember what you did while you were there. Serious Adventures are local guides located on the dock that will make your trip unforgettable. Be sure to look them up. We did the Xunantunich and Cave Tubing tour and Gustava was AMAZING. You must request him. Very funny and teaches you as you go. The immediate water just off shore is a bit grassy (as is all locations in the area), but still good for some basic swimming and snorkeling. Calm waters, warm and clear. Also make sure to check out Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley. A MUST. Overall it was a well deserved vacation and very relaxing. If you are looking for a party time and excitement at night this is not the place for you unless you want to take a water taxi into town. But if you want to relax, enjoy the peace and quiet definitely worth the price. I hope you have as good of a time as we did.

“We LOVE Portofino!”

March 15th, 2016

We LOVED our visit to Portofino and can’t wait to go back! We were so impressed with how friendly and helpful the staff were, how clean the amenities and how beautiful the location was! All staff members we encountered were more than willling to help or answer questions. We booked two tours through Portofino and it was incredibly easy. Our room was perfect. We were so impressed with how hard your employees worked to make this an enjoyable vacation and to keep your property clean and tidy. Will HIGHLY recommend!
Our room, handmade soaps (including the thoughtful gift we got when we left), easy of booking tours, hammocks and chairs throughout the property, “feel” of the place, peace and privacy

“Couldn’t ask for more!”

March 11th, 2016

Portofino made our trip flawless! They took care of anything and everything we needed! The staff was very friendly and the location was great. I highly recommend renting a golf cart to come and go because there a lot of great restaurants in San Pedro and you will want to drive to Secret Beach too. The food at Portofino is excellent too. We booked a trip for the day that included fishing for your lunch, snorkeling and then eating your catch on the beach. It was so fun and the lunch was delicious!

“A greate Caribbean experiance”

March 7th, 2016

A fantastic place to be, right on the Caribbean coast.
Wonderful in terms of nature, the colors of a fairy tale.
The hospitality of the crew is perfect.
You will be taken on from St Pedro,
With a large launcha and 20 minutes later you arrive at your paradise.
The rooms, the pool, the controls are quite good.
The kitchen with their European, Caribbean tuch is delicious, fresh and professional.
The little tappa programs are new and recommendable.
In short, a surprise at the highest level.
Thanks Portofino.

“Very relaxing & diving nearby”

March 3rd, 2016
Overall my stay at Portofino was great. I travelled there with my aunt in May. My favorite thing about the resort was the proximity to the barrier reef. The staff was super friendly and helpful, which was especially nice when trying to book our adventures for the week. Portofino has its own dive shop, so you can book all of you dives through them. The dive master was very nice, and it was only about a 90 second boat ride from the dock to the stunning reef. The staff also helped us out with our booking of inland adventure to the Mayan ruins. The pool area at the resort is very nice, and they have good bar food as well as a nicer restaurant that opens for dinner.
I would defiantly recommend Portofino for an out-of-the-way relaxing trip. My aunt and I quickly noticed that we were nearly the only ones on the property who were not honeymooning or celebrating anniversaries, but we still had a great time nonetheless. More geared towards a romantic getaway than a family or solo spot.

“We LOVE Portofino!”

February 28th, 2016

My husband and I were so impressed with our stay at Portofino! We couldn’t get over how beautiful and well-kept the property was. The staff is beyond friendly and helpful and were able to answer any and all questions that we had. We booked two tours through the resort (snorkeling with Action Divers at the end of the dock and a tour to Lamanai with Searious Adventures). We also enjoyed a couples massage on the beach which was outstanding.

We chose to eat many of our meals at the resort. While we originally thought the meals were slightly pricey, once we factored in the cost it would take us to travel to “town” (San Pedro) we realized it was well worth it. I do wish there were more options on the menu, however we also took a short walk down the beach in both directions to other locations to enjoy some variety. We enjoyed the handmade soap that was in our room and appreciated the gift we got when we were leaving. Housekeeping came by twice a day and there is plenty, plenty of sitting/tanning/lounging space located around the resort. It was incredibly quiet and private here. The only thing we wished were different is that there was deeper water for snorkeling and swimming at the front of the property (however, we made due with the pool)!

“A Heavenly Piece of Paradise!”
February 20th, 2016

We thoroughly enjoyed this resort. It is quiet and secluded, so if you’re looking for a quiet place to relax, this is as close to paradise as it comes! The resort is right on their own private beach, complete with palm trees, lounge chairs and a beautiful Belizean breeze. Get yourself a delicious smoothie from the bar and you’re in heaven! The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. And the rooms are beautiful and comfortable. Truly first class, in my opinion!

Our beautiful 4 bedroom beach front villa consists of 2 floors and is located right on the beach facing the glistening Caribbean Sea. This fascinating air-conditioned beach home sleeps up to 6 people on the first floor and up to 4 people on the second floor. This is the perfect beachfront home for families or groups of friends that want to be together.

The main floor (Beach Level offers 1,200 square feet of inviting interior space which includes a spacious living area with a flat screen TV,DVD/CD Player, a kitchenette that is open to the dining area, spacious bathroom with double sinks and hot and cold rain shower, and two bedrooms. The master bedroom is complete with a built in closet and a king size bed facing picture windows that offer outstanding views of the Caribbean Sea. The second bedroom has a small closet and two twin beds, which can also be replaced with a queen bed, based on guests’ need. There is also the possibility of adding an extra twin bed in the nook of the hand carved wooden staircase leading to the connecting door on the second floor.

The top floor measures 800 square feet with a fully equipped kitchenette, a cozy dining and living area with flat screen Cable TV, DVD/CD Player, a spacious bathroom with hot and cold rain shower and two bedrooms, each containing one queen sized bed. This level not only features a full length balcony overlooking the Caribbean Sea as the main level (beach level), but also has a spacious back porch (400 square feet) from which you can watch the beautiful sunsets.

This beautiful Beach Front Villa can be rented as a whole or as two separate levels depending on the size and particular needs of each family or group. These units are non smoking but smoking is allowed on the porch.
